I just purchased this note on ebay and in person it looks a little funny. The ink just doesn't look right and the paper feels a little weird but most importantly it has no intaglio/embossing at all. I want to get it certified but don't want to spend the money if it is not genuine. On a side note, I cannot find any information on this note like when it was printed, why it was printed, or what the MNB stands for. Any info will help. Thanks! Edited by picc 05/04/2021 12:51 pm

Wow, I've got so many questions. How was it described on ebay ? How does the size compare to a modern $10 note ? What does it smell like ? Why do you want to get it graded ?

Four examples all recently came to auction in late 2020-early 2021, and none of them were graded. All had the same auction description; MNB Test Note "10" Units ND Choice Crisp Uncirculated. I've never heard of MNB.

100% total guess here, but I presume the contract for providing paper to the the Bureau of Engraving and Printing has to be periodically re-competed like all federal contracts per the FAR. Could MNB be a company that at one time bid on the contract, provided sample paper for test notes, and did not win the contract?

Captaincoffee, that's a good thought. However, if the BEP were testing the paper, they would have used engraved printing plates and from all I've heard, these are not engraved notes.
To me it seems more likely that these were test notes for ATMs or something similar. But there's been no confirmation of this.

Of possible interest, the Hungarian Banknote Printing company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), has printed specialty banknote paper for many countries for the past century.

It looks like a note for testing ATM. MNB may be M______ National Bank.
