Clearly there are no DDR varieties for the 1974-P . Can someone explain what is going on at the top of letters. As all the other MD I have seen it is flat , not rounded ? Thanks in advance.

Correct. Machine Doubling. 1. Just the outside area is affected. 2. The affected areas are reduced, with the contour of those devices are removed. 3. All the affected areas are a step below thre regular devices. 4. No widening of the center areas of the devices. (Height, or width and no notching) You've got it figured out.
