When You Say Errors? What Do You Mean?

On the forum we see a lot if questions asked from new ones. They will explain their coin with no images and say:"I have a coin that has errors?" We here that a lot. The first questions going through are mind is probably this?

When you say errors? What do you mean?
1. Machine Doubling? (striking issue)
2. A die event? Die cracks/chips/breaks, rim Cud, Die Cud, die scratches, die clash, Ridge Ring,
3. Coin damage or alteration of a coin after the coin was struck.
4. A doubled die? or a RPM, Over mintmark, Repunched date (17th and 18 century varieties)
5. Or a one if a kind error like wrong planchet, struck off center, an incomplete planchet, double struck, partial collar, Lamination error, struck through a capped die, incomplete planchet errors, other one coin error happenings. (these are mint errors)

So when you say you found a coin with errors, that means nothing specif to us. Tell us what you see and with nice clear images, we can tell you what you found. We've probably seen everything that you have found, posted here every day. So good clear images will be a help to us. Keep them horizontal. Unless the devices are curving, see the horizontal is a plus. We can see what you have easier. Images not just showing one device that is huge, is not a help. See them together will show us more than one single device.

When you look at one location and move your eyes to another location the sizes get lost. So seeing them side by side, helps to show the even slight differences, why something is/is not a certain variety. So if you have questions, ask. We are glad to help. Were are here to help train new ones. Some come here with a chip on their shoulder and so leave. I always try to explain what I see on a coin. Most of the time I have images to share, other times I have to create so it fits the exact subject. So the more you can tell us, or the least you can tell us, images will fill in the blank better.
