Someone lost the money for sure. Even if its a plain, you can barely read the date lol. Not to mention he states right away that there are no returns...thats a dead giveaway to me. And i'll be sure to not look out for his upcoming rare coins for sale lol.

The pictures are less than stellar. Even it it were a 1922, given how worn the date is, the mint mark might simply be worn enough to not show in the photos.

yeah, that's terrible. Someone got shafted there I think, which is a real shame. It can only take one bad experience like that to ruin numismatics for someone for good. That really bothers me, as someone who sells on ebay quite a bit. People who sell things like that can really make ebay look bad.

That year the mint used 3 die pairs for the mint mark that had been totally worn out. As a result the 1st and 3rd dies produced what is called "weak D's" because the D mint mark on them was very weak and hard to see.
Now... die no. 2 was so worn out it produced 1922 pennies with no D at all. We call this a "1922 plain" and it is worth quite a bit more, anywhere from $300 - $1,000+ again depending on the grade of the coin. The regular 1922 D, you should be able to see the D clearly and without a magnifying tool.

Notice how small the reverse pic was? Dead give away that he's trying to pull this off as a 22 plain, possibly from die no. 2(that has a strong reverse). IMHO some poor chap over paid. But I guess it was worth $42 to him. ?

Well, for every rip-off artist, there is usually a dumb schmuck that made him one.

Let's not jump the gun too quickly here. There's also a die pair 4 from my readings. I own a 1922D, no D, weak reverse coin. There's a chance this coin could be one of of those. I think that's what the buyer is taking a chance on. This coin looks very, very close to mine. I can only make out the second 2 with lots of magnification and tilting at just the right angle.
PCGS will certify these coins as no D, weak reverse. I believe they sell for between $300-$1000. All might not be lost with this buy, for only 40 bucks it's worth a chance.
