I couldn't find any information on this coin so I thought this would be the best place to post. The coin is very small, smaller than a dime. The eagle that would usually be the tail side appears to be the head because it has stars around it and the date under it (1840). The opposite side is completely smooth and blank, and has a small rectangular indent in the center (I would assume from the pressing?). Can anyone identify this, and is the blank side an error or something else?

This is about the best I can do, the coin is so small that it's hard to take a clear picture:

Looks like some sort of uniface token. Token collectors can perhaps identify it.

Maybe a button, with an indent where the loop for attachment was?

Thanks Rothery! That looks like a pretty close match, and the fact that the date is below the eagle plus the stars would lead me to believe it's not real currency. Is about the size of a button too.

I also concur with the button conjecture.
