I inherited many 2001 proof silver Eagles, all still in their original cases and boxes. I also have two priority Mail boxes that have never been opened since the coins were mailed from the mint in 2001, based on the contents of the other boxes there are 10 to 12 proof silver Eagles in these two unopened boxes total.

Is there any additional value for the coins that have remained in the original priority Mail boxes?

How do I sell all these coins in such a way that allows me to not be ripped off?

I'd sure appreciate any help from the experts on this forum. I thank you.

Thank you, that was a helpful link. And thank you for the welcome.

Is there any increased value for those coins which haven't been seen in 20 years and are still in the original priority Mail box? Or should I just open the box?

No.

This depends on how quickly your are looking to sell them, how much effort you are willing to put into their sale and making sure you have the correct expectations for their selling price.

Many dealers would likely be willing to purchase the group from you, but would typically not pay more than 50-60% of the current retail price. Dealers need to make a profit on what they buy, so you shouldn't expect to get "retail selling price" offers from them. If you go this route, I would not take the coins to a gold/silver buyer or a pawn shop as they would very likely pay even less. (I've heard some sad stories about the prices offered by these types of businesses!)

If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you could sell them on ebay, one or two at a time. You will likely get the full, current retail for each but will have to pay a seller's fee that will reduce your total. In the end, however, you will likely net more vs. selling to a dealer. If you go this route, I would not list them in large groups or all of them at the same time - spacing them out a bit will yield you the best results.

Good luck!

A dealer will pay me 50-60% of their value or 50-60% of what people on ebay will pay? It appears this coin is selling for low $60's (not counting shipping). Is the ebay fee 10%? If it's 10% that means I can sell each coin, maybe, for about $55-$58 profit. How much less would I expect to get from a dealer? Any guesses?

What people pay on ebay would be considered "full retail" price, so a dealer would pay out a percentage of that (the 50-60% mentioned). In many cases, the dealer would be the one selling them for that full retail ($60+) on ebay, so they will obviously not buy them from you at that price.

Is the ebay fee 10%?

The fee for the Bullion category is 12.35% best I can tell and remember that the Final Value Fees apply to shipping charges as well. Non-bullion Coins categories look to be 12.55%. A $0.30 fee is also charged per sale. You will still get more than selling in bulk to a dealer, though it will take more effort. How much more and whether it's worth the trouble depends on how many you are selling.

You could put a group on ebay as BIN's at a price around or just below the average completed sale prices...

Start with 5 available and see how long they take to sell...if not going anywhere drop it a buck or two and relist. Eventually you will hit an appropriate selling price.

I offer free shipping which looks good to buyers but does decrease profit obviously (average $3.10-$3.45 to ship a single on ebay)

It will take a bit but you will still get a better price than a dealer bulk sale
