Please correct me if I'm wrong I'm new to this and still learning. Is this what's called a die crack?

It's not referred to as a die break, but as a die chip. These are areas of the die that have broken and dropped out of the face of the die leaving a pit in the surface for the metal of the planchet to fill during the strike.

As a general rule, die chips don't command a premium value. Some collect them because they like them. I do have a few in my collection, but I don't think they will ever be worth more than face value.

If you like it, keep it. It only cost you a quarter.

What is the difference between a die chip and a die break. The breaks show more of a loss of metal from the die. It maybe start off as a die chip, then crumble away later on. It kind of the like difference between a pimple and a boil. Size does matter. (I've had a boil before) Why do they call them boils? Because they feel like someone put a drop of boiling water on you. They have to be lanced and burned out with silver nitrate. A pimple is nothing compared with a boil. (I know) I still have the scar, and decades later. (Sorry to be graphic)
