Trying to decide whether to send this coin back to auction or not. Of course once again, I was fooled by online pictures.

Curious -- do you think this is F or XF

And I'm still struggling to see signs of cleaning... generally. I mean I see hairlines..

In my opinion it is a cleaned coin. Not all the cleaned coins has hairlines. By shinny I will say clean with toothpaste.

Harshly cleaned coin, definitely not worth grading.

The obverse looks VF Details cleaned/polished and reverse looks XF Details cleaned/polished. Return to seller. You may want to consider buying coins over $200 in a TPG holder until your grading skills improve on identifying cleaned coins. A good starting place is to learn what original skin on a coin looks like.

First, based on the details a fine-12 or vg-10. Personally, I consider all circulated coins to be cleaned. So grading also becomes a personal choice. Nice specimen either way, thanks for sharing and the question/advice.

I don't believe in having coins sent in for grading. IF I like one, it goes into an Album. It is there for me so why worry about it's grade.
