Found this last night sifting through some rolls I purchased. 1968 D LMC master die doubling. I cannot attribute this as a DDO as the mintmark doesn't match anything known, it is too low. One of the better ones I have seen as you can actually see two of everything in the IGWT.

Even if it is a doubled working hub, with how rarely you see ones with this strong and clear doubling, I think they are still collectible and worth cataloguing.

I agree my friend. And, I did mislabel it as master die doubling, not working hub.

The difference is that if one die made the full run, there could be 1 million examples of it. If it was from a working hub and it create 60 dies, that would mean 60 million, could be out there. So they will make it a common example.

Coop, with so many apparently out there it makes one wonder where are the ones like I posted at?

Not MDD but a doubled working hub (according to Wexler). Variety Vista lists it as a doubled die. Who is correct is hard to say. Wexler often seems to just group doubled dies into a doubled working hub if there are many that are hard to distinguish

@Jim0815 I would say for this particular variety, I am kind of in VV's camp, since I do think the doubling on all the dies they have listed look very slightly different albeit similar, while wexler only lists the one doubled working hub for this date. The fact that I've also never found one makes me skeptical of the doubled working hub theory. Although, I suppose it is possible that the mint recognized the working hub doubling after creating a small number of dies from it and pulled it early.

They are listed on coppercoins and Variety Vista. But Wexler's site recognizes it, for what it is.

Perhaps Mr. Wexler could ask Conneca to pull the 1968 D DDO-001 attributed to his name.

I feel since then, they have gone in different directions. Time will be the changer on this one. It will get there, eventually.
