I'm having such a difficult time telling what is small date/large date. Would really appreciate input from y'all. Thank you so very much!

These are all large dates. The best identifier I've found is that the curve of the 2 on the small date cent changes direction toward the bottom- if you've taken introductory calculus, it has an inflection point. On the large date, the diagonal is straight and doesn't quite cleanly meet the base. If you compare pictures, you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

Note the finer shape of the 2. The 8 on the small date also has a smaller upper loop relative to the lower loop.

Here's a side by side of the large and small dates. It should help you understand the differences.

Not surprising that they are all large. From my searching the large to small 1982d ratio has been around 20:1

I don't have any 1982 D copper small dates but I added about 40 rolls or so of these to my hoard!

I figure they are high mintage but I read somewhere that the dies broke in January of 1982 for the 1982 Bronze small dates! Anybody here anything about that? I have only found about 16 in my life time so that can't be a coincidence. Or maybe everyone in 1982 was trying to collect all 7 or 8 varieties and culled all the small dates out. I have no idea! Please anybody with some intel I would love to here about it.

@ Pigeonman - its generally considered inappropriate to revive an 18 month old thread and take it in a different direction. Suggest you consider starting a new thread of your own next time.

You did not state the composition of your 40 rolls of 1982 cents. Are we are to assume they are 3.1 gram copper cents?

Given the huge mintage of these relative to demand I can't see a pathway for them to eventually gain any numismatic premium. I look forward to what other members have to say.
