3 of 4 known varieties will go to auction soon. An NGC F12 specimen and a PCGS FR02 and PCGS G04. It will be very interesting what they sell for. Here is the NGC F12.http://www.coinresource.com/guide/e...rry_cent.htm
It sold in 2004 for $414,000! The bidding will start at $700,000. I believe it is Stacks on the F12 and Bowers and Merena on the others.

I think with the way the housing market is going, I think I'd rather invest in 4 homes in my area

I predict this coin will sell for 7 figures easy.

I think the other two are being sold by the Goldbergs. Same people who are selling the Ted Nafzger coins. I have to admit I'm more interested in what the Fr-2 coin goes for considering its the "rare" one. I must also say that I am truly sorry to see Dan selling his collection. I was really hoping he would be able to hold it together long enough to get that last piece.

For those who don't know, the other two Strawberry leaf cents are part of the Dan Holmes Collection, the most complete early date large cent collection ever assembled. And probably the most complete set that ever will be assembled. He had 354 of the 355 varieties. The only piece he was missing was one of the Unique NC varieties which is permanently impounded in the ANS collection.

Wow. I am also interested to see what the FR02 will go for as well. Ya, I know "rare" one. It's almost funny considering there are only 4 known. R-8.

Yes but three of the four are one variety and the Fr-2 is the unique example of the second variety. It's an R-8+ and the other's an R-8-.
