Here is an interesting paper I've found about the history of making coins.
I am not aware of any restrictions on posting this document.I have kept the heading as a source for it.Rather than just sending people there,I've made it into a PDF so it can be downloaded and read.
Moderators feel free to remove it if you feel it infringes the Copyright.
