I got this 2008 D Hawaii State Quarter with a nice dark look to it. I've heard this can happen if they are 'Baked' too long at the mint.

Not sure if that is what is going on here, or if it is even worth anything. Thought I'd share it, because I like it.

What do you thing of it, I'd like to know?

You mean annealing error. Very hard to tell if it is and if it is from the mint because anyone can do it very easily. Most likely environmental damage.

I think you are referring to improper annealing.
It is probably environmental toning as John1 stated. Try rubbing the
surface and sometimes it will come off.

Correct typo

I think on the black beauties, the color doesn't change with wear, as the metal is turned that color. With so much of an alteration of the coins, the best way to be sure, it to find them in the original rolls:

Thanks Coop! I have a 1976 nickel like this as well as the quarter. I was planning on holding on to them as they are fun coins to have.

The key thing here is to remember, found in an original bank wrapped roll. Since they can be made at home pretty easy, the only way to know it is an error is to find it in an OBWR.

Just environmental damage. Annealing errors are hard to positively ID, but this one is very easily spotted as just damage from the way the dark areas have been worn away on the high points of the coin from circulation.

I haven't find these type of error appealing to me, but if I find some that's I believe is improper annealing, I just set them aside.
