Hi guys I'm new here. Just couple of days ago managed to pick up sone old swiss junk half franc in reasonable condition. Would say around vf to xf condition. Condition as shown in attached photos.

Price that I paid is about 60 percent above actual silver weight of the coin. Would these coins have potential for price appreciation in terms of numismatic value? All the silver coins that I purchased are from I'm the 50's and 60's.

Thanks

Hi Npanda and to the Forum!

It's always good to pick up silver coins for just a small premium over melt.

As far as your 1965 half franc goes, while it's a nice coin, I don't imagine it will ever be worth that much more than its silver value. It's a common date, with a mintage of 17,920,000, and, as these coins were replaced by cupro-nickel ones in 1968, most of them saw little circulation and have survived in Extremely Fine and Uncirculated condition.

Agree, the value here will most likely track silver prices.
