Fake/Counterfeit Detection: 1931-S Lincoln Wheat Cent

GrapeCollects Pillar of the Community United States 8938 Posts	Posted 06/14/2021 3:30 pm While going through a lot we were purchasing I came across this coin. I thought I'd share as it is much better than most fakes I often see. How to ID this fake. The easiest tell to me is the date. The 3 in 1931 is misshapen. On a genuine 31-S the lower loop extends past the upper loop. In addition, the serif in the middle of the 3 is a smooth, round ball on a genuine coin while on this it's jagged and triangular. Few 31 S cents grade lower than XF and les than VF is practically unheard of. There coins were known to be a low mintage pretty much from day one and most of them almost immediately disappeared from circulation. Report this Post to the Staff
