If they can market the candidate, they can market the coins.
But I feel sorry for the people who will buy this thinking it's a rare or collectible coin... might drive them away from our hobby... :(

I wouldn't buy this junk for 1 cent. I had guys at work ask me the same thing, "Dave, are these worth buying?" I just laugh and walk away.

Guys this candidate had his face on his plane and everywhere. I am sure he would not mind a few coins/plates being sold. Maybe part of it goes to the campaign/administration, continuing to build the "Change" brand. Maybe the whole concept of change referred to "spare change" - J/K please no offense to Obama supporters.

If the coins are cheaper than clay targets, I could use them on the trap range.  The price of oil keeps running up the price of clay targets.  The price of "collectibles" in these categories keeps going down once people realize the value of them.  This is not a political nor a racial post just a comment on TV "collectibles" |

I too saw Montel peddling thses on tv. It struck me as ironic because he has previously represented himself as someone who helps others avoid being ripped off and scammed. Who better to decieve many others. But as long as he's being paid to help peddle that's all that matters.  |

I'm just going to come out and say it, offensive or not, people who buy this are idiots.
Even if you were a big obama supporter who wanted a nice piece of memorbilia, this wouldn't be it. They are STICKERED coins! Common coins at that. Its not some sort of nice, well-struck, laser-etched, hand-minted proof commemerative coin we're talking about. Its pocket change with a cheesy sticker on it.
Such crap, whenever I see those coin infomercials they make me sick.

I've seen that also. The thing that gets me is I would think that Montel is smart enough to know better. AND I'm sure he doesn't need the money he may be getting for that commercial. However, I've seen many famous and rich people on adds and you know they are fake. I remember an add by Michael Jordan about him driving a Chevy. Then the next sceen they showed him driving away in a Ferrari. Those coins are a stupid thing to us coin collectors but you must remember that there are millions and millions of people that do not collect coins as a Numismatist. They just collect STUFF. My house and garage are full of just STUFF so I know. I have freinds, relatives and neighbors that also collect STUFF. Coins such as those are like those plates you see from the Franklin Mint. Nice, pretty, creative but no resale value. But then again most people that collect STUFF do not care about resale value. |

I was in a local B&M the other day and the guy told me about someone that came in with a bunch of stuff that he had bought off of TV. He had spent about $13,000 on all of it. The owner told him that he would give him $1,500 for it, mostly for the silver that was there. The guy thought that he was trying to rip him off. Before the guy walked out the owner told him if he had the receipts to go donate it to a church and take the write-off because he will never get close to 13k out of it. He also told the guy that when he finds out that he wasn't trying to rip him off he could come back and apologize and there would be no hard feelings. He hasn't seen the guy since...
