Need some numismatic help!

Have seen a coin and we are wondering if anyone knows anything about it:

Lincoln wheatie - no date/no mint; condition of coin is fine-XF; all other details about this coin are there.

Have researched error coins info and numerous sites, but cannot find any information regarding this occuring.

Thanks for your help.

When you look at the obverse, do you see any marks where the date would be located?

Only where you see the "dot" on the obverse. Also if you notice (I know they are not so great pics), at the base of the "S" & "T" in TRUST there are marks there as well. Also, the rim from the end "T" in TRUST down to the edge of Lincoln's coat appears to be thinner than the remainder of the rim. Could this be a die that had gunk and these areas just were not struck?

it could just be a Grease Filled Die or it could be that somebody removed those details somehow. A good strong jewelers loupe or a microscope might be needed to tell for sure.

Where did you get it?

There's only two ways this can happen:

1) Post-mint damage, design elements were physically removed (most likely)
2) Grease Filled Die.

You should have posted this in the Errors/Varieties forum section. We have some of the best experts there for this type of thing. You're going to need better and larger pictures for them. See if your camera has a macro mode and if you can get a close shot of the date area....and....

Is the coin authentic? The reverse looks odd.

I agree, the reverse looks odd. The tops of the wheat stalks should show more detail compared with the detail of the rest of the coin. On the obverse, Lincoln's cheek and beard are well separated and there is a lot of detail. The reverse "should" be better than it is.
