Shatsi....from what we could ascertain, the "dancing man" coin, though a commemmorative issue, was also minted for general circulation. We were led to belive the Mob of Roos reverse would not be minted.

The RAM Annual Report which comes out in Octber of each year, made no mention of the minting of the Mob of Roos reverse for circulation as well.

Perhaps, it is a classic case of the right hand not telling the left hand, but it is "strongly rumoured" that 5 million of these was minted after the Annual Report and are sitting in the vaults. Some of these have "escaped" out in the open.

All will be revealed come October.....

I would think if the Mint did strike Mob of Roos they would be open and willing to make such an announcement. I believe these coins were accidentally, or intentionally stuck, without Mint authorization. I was up in the middle of the night bidding my heart out but was not prepared for the auction end. Hopefully more will hit ebay and I will get another opportunity to nab one!
Shatsi I am currently after proof Mob or Roos and making a little headway but will not pass up an opportunity to have this coin that, at this time, should not even exsist? Seems to me RAM ought to "fess" up and let the world collecting community know what is going on with this coin?

rggoodie you don't want to know what I paid for that coin!!! Guess I wasn't taking any chances of missing out and I still believe the rumors circulating of a possible 5 million being made are just that---RUMORS! Seems to me RAM would fess up if they did run a huge batch don't you think? My instincts tell me it was an error and very few are actually going to surface down there! Time will tell and apparently I am betting on being right about this one.
I can see why some collectors would want to start a 5 million rumor in an effort stop the huge search that must be underway by all the Aussie collectors!

There is often a lag time between when the mint produces the coins and when they are in circulation. Reports are that they are in numbers on the Gold Coast.(Queensland Australia) A few more weeks will tell the tale.

My opinion is thaat there are 5 million coins out there somewhere. Either at a security company safe or the ram safe or even in downies safe?

I find this error hard to believe, personally. Sorry Terry.

Then again as we are all in agreeance time will tell.

Perhaps its just me, but how can you "accidently" make 5 million coins?

My only hope of obtaining the 2005 Mob of Roos would be getting it in my change :(

EDIT: there is a couple for sale, both from the same guy here. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2005-MOB-OF-...cmdZViewItem

I don't think it was an accident. the 5 million was intended, I just don't think they have been released yet. Now if that was intentionial or accident who knows?
