The notification also provides collectors with the price for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle. Provided the average price of gold remains between $850.00 - $899.99, the price will be $1,239.00.

Ouch! I was hoping for about $1000!

i knew it was gonna be high... According to the chart you would be better off getting it if gold went up to 1500.00 b/c then it would only cost you 1539.00

That's $1.15k - $1.2k, mister! The mint know how to make a profit!!

But at least they give you the breakdown... 26-34% O/H and other cost?! Puh-leez. Rather buy Olympic Maples that have ACTUAL MINTAGE CAPS and are only 10% O/H max!!

The price might be a little too much for me. I'm afraid if I don't buy it from the mint there will be an even bigger premium on the coin. What are we suppose to do. Is there a certain time when we will be able to order? I know the Lincoln commem goes on sale the 22 but what time?

It all depends on how much of a Risk Taker you are. Many credit card companies are offering ZERO percent interest until 1/1/2010. So you get that card, buy the Ultra High Relief Gold Coin, and hope it goes up. If it does, then you sell it, pay off the credit card and pocket the profit. If you want to keep it, then you just need to pay $100.00 a month on the credit card and it pays off before the Credit Card starts charging interest.

I really like the idea of owning a Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle but, I'm thinking about waiting a while before I purchase it on the secondary market. A few years ago, I purchased the 1 ounce Gold Proof Buffalo from the Mint when it was released. Last year I was able to sell it for a 10% profit. But I purchased the Buffalo for the list price of $800.00 in 2006. I can't see being able to sell the Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle for a profit when the price is over $1,200.

When I sold the Buffalo, I sold it for the spot price of Gold. The Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle is a beautiful coin, but I'm going to be patient for this one.
