That's the question. I've already have a few rolls, but then looking at the mintage numbers for 07 and 08, should I still keep them?
$25 is still a lot, considering about 3 for every prez x 8 of them...
The 08 mintages aren't looking so hot... should I keep some of those?
And I see that the mint still has them for direct ship...
So the question is, again, should I keep them? As in will they increase in value in the near (say 5 yr) term to merit keeping them? I'm kind of leaning towards just selling them for $2-3 more right now and just collect singles...

Personally, I would not.
It is a lot of money to tie up in coins that may or may not increase in value over a 5 year period. If you have the money and are willing to take the risk that 60 months from now they'll only be worth $25 each then go for it.

I personally buy four rolls of each prez and search through two of them for errors and varieties and keep two unopened.I plane on keeping them as long as I can,if they go up in value great if not they are still worth twenty five dollars for each roll. The '08 issues will have a design change and that might add some value to them as well as adding value to the first years issues. You mean the 09 ones... Yeah, I don't think they're going to go up much in value, unless I find a collector who really wants them... better start selling...

So let me see if I understand, the direct ship program, for $250 I can get 10 rolls of $1 presidents. If I keep one roll of $25 and sell/spend the rest at face value, it cost me $25 per president to get a unc roll of dollars delivered to my home. The mint pays all shipping costs? If I have a points credit card, I'm also accumulating points on that credit card for "buying money". I'm not sure there's a downside. Am I missing something?

I think collecting the Sacs is a smarter move, lower mintages and more collector interest.

I think a roll of those may be worth double in about 5 hundred years. I still remember me saving all those Bicentennial coins. Sort of like Beanie Babies.

Well, thank god I got rid of them...
I guess if I need any soon, I can just get 500 at the mint for $495!

Quote: If I have a points credit card, I'm also accumulating points on that credit card for "buying money" Or if you have a credit card like Discover that gives you cah back ou can effectively buy them for LESS than face value. Quote: The 08 mintages aren't looking so hot. If you think the 08's aren't so hot wait till you see the final figures on the 09's. I think it won't be long before they stop making them for circulation and just sell them to the collectors. When that happens you will see the mitage figures drop to just a few million coins a year, just like the 2002 - 2008 sac dollars. It will make the 08 mintage look huge.

The 2008 Sac rolls are going so high because of their low mintages and they are sold out at the mint. I think the later years in the Presidential dollar series will be the keepers, because mintage numbers I think will decline, just like what happened with SAC. If that happens, the SAC mintages will also keep declining and that means we might see 500,000 mintages (or less) for the SAC in the coming years. The only way the mintage numbers will not drop on the Presidential series is if we abolish the paper dollar. Then we will have to use the dollar coins and they will have to mint then in droves. So in my opinion, the real keepers of the Presidential series have yet to be minted. Stay tuned...
