This is a pretty "vanilla" coin, a later Republican Roma head denarius, but I never have had one until now. Kind of an important type of coin to miss if you are doing a survey of (affordable) coins type collection like I am. Not to shabby on the details for Roma and the knobby kneed horses pulling the biga, and some nice toning.

Republican-Denarius

C. CLAUDIUS PULCHER, AR Denarius, c. 110 BC.

O: Helmeted bust of Roma right.
R: Victory in biga right, C. PVLCHER in exergue.
Rome mint.
18 mm, 3.7 g

A very nice coin, Chris. Both sides - Roma and the biga - look great. Curious to know what the cutoff ($$$) is for coins in your "affordable" collection.

Solid, honest coin. An often unappreciated classic.

Hey jskirwin, "solid and honest" is the description I was looking for, sums it up pretty good!

Hey bob, the most I've purchased a coin for is 200 USD, I try to run around 50 -150 for most of my ancients. Nothing magic about those numbers, it is just the amount of free cash I have to spend on coins every now and again. The denarius here was 75 dollars.

Thanks Ski!
