I have just received the Perth Mint newsletter of January 2009 and it has a link to the Australian Numismatic Post newsletter. Well, well... in the last page of this electronic newspaper, there is the news that on January the 28th there will be the presentation of the new "Discover Australia" coin series, namely "The Dreaming Series".
I hope that this new series will have the same artistic value of the first one, still on sale. How long it will last the new Series? How many coins?
I'm just wondering if the series has something to share with the Kangaro and Turtle "Dreaming" rectangular coins issued in 2008...
From the Currency ( Perth Mint) Determination 2008 (No. 2).
The Discover Australia - Fauna - II series will be minted in: - silver (1 oz) - gold (1/2 oz, 1/10 oz and 1/25 oz) - platinum (1/2 oz and 1/10 oz)
15 animals.
2009: Brolga, Dolphin, Echidna, Kangaroo, King Brown Snake 2010: Frilled Neck Lizard, Koala, Platypus, Saltwater Crocodile, Common Wombat 2011: Dingo, Emu, Great White Shark, Kookaburra, Tasmanian Devil
All the subjects are by DB (Darryl Bellotti, I assume). ---
The animals are the same of the first series (no bat, sea lion or whale shark of the aluminium bronze set). It seems like the beginning of a cycle, three-years-long, similar to the 12-years-long cicle of the Lunars.
