While it may not ruin the coin, you might decide you do not like the appearance. Better to have that disappointment happen on a throw-away coin than the one you really want to reveal.

Beautiful ghosting just like my dollar. I can still see it a year later. But if you're not careful it'll rub off. I wonder whether it would slab as details. Not worth the cost but interesting to know.
