These are just so nifty looking that I overpaid for this one just to have it in my counterfeit collection. I have a similar one but not nearly so bold of a second strike. Essentially a real 1964 coin was struck rotated with a fake die, making a quite convincing-looking double struck rotated in collar counterfeit. 1964 Lincoln Memorial cent counterfeit - double struck on fake die

That's a neat coin. Pretty well done, and fun to analyze.

First thing that seems off is the lack of a second memorial on the back. But then again I haven't seen many double struck coins

Wow! Is it correctly aligned to the flattened "first strike" image? I think I'm looking at it correctly in that the flattened devices would have been struck first, with the higher relief features being the second strike?

That seems like an awful lot of work to go through for a cent. If it were real what kind of value are we talking?

Quote: That seems like an awful lot of work to go through for a cent. If it were real what kind of value are we talking? Well tropicalbats did say that they 'probably overpaid' for it, Now imagine that the maker of this coin made 100 of them? 1,000 of them? That is where the profit would come from.

The perfect reverse pretty much gives it away.

Quote: The perfect reverse pretty much gives it away. Agreed. No secondary strike on the reverse means it wasn't struck a second time. But they did a great job of not flattening the reverse when striking the obverse.

I had that PMD cent I thought was a strike through and the reverse was untouched also. I guess there are other skills to acquire. LOL

Thanks for the great comments! And Yokozuna you are correct, but when I've seen these on counterfeit sites this is the orientation they used so I went with second strike up.
