Hello all! I have the chance to purchase a complete set of US Commemorative State Quarters 1999-2008. All parts of the set are from the mint in original packages with COAs as well. The set includes Philadelphia, Denver, Platinum Plated, and Gold Plated. I'm just curious if they would be worth my investment at about $150.00 US dollars. Thank you very much!

@zmathiasz: Please realize that the US Mint has never issued gold- or platinum-plated State Quarters and that whatever COAs come with the set you are referencing are not from the US Mint - they are from a third party. In terms of being a "good investment," understand that these sets once sold for much more - their market price has not fared well over the years. Buy it you like it, but I would suggest that it shouldn't be purchased with expectations of future gains!

That makes a lot of sense now that I look at the packaging. Thanks for the very quick reply!

think I'll pass as the seller doesn't want to split the sets up and I don't really want the plated coins. Again, thank you for the info.

You can easily get the full set in high au to ms by searching a few boxes of quarters. I just recently completed my Warman's State Quarter set by searching $2000 in quarters. It is a very easy to achieve goal and reasonable too.

The set includes the 2009 Territories quarters and even with them is quite easy to complete. If you will tolerate worse grades and staining a box or a box and a half of quarters should do the trick. The folder is available on Amazon for $6-$7. I can't seem to remember the price.

These coins are what really got me interested in collecting. Every now and then I'll ask a coin shop what they would give me for my book. I didn't get silver or proof which would change the equation. Never really wanted to sell but have no idea what if any value I should place on it. Not a single one has offered my anything in the last few years. I am sure if I sold it with other stuff they would take it but alone they don't want it.

@pilotaggie: If you're talking about an album full of coins pulled from circulation, you have to realize that literally hundreds of millions were struck of each quarter. They are very common coins and the collector marketplace for circulated State Quarters is essentially non- existent. A coin dealer would likely struggle to sell the set. I would venture to say that unless you have something special within the group you collected (i.e., a desirable/collectible error), the quarters are worth face value for the most part. There are so many to choose from in the marketplace! Hopefully, the value of your set was realized via the enjoyment you had putting it together!

Yeah sorry if I didn't make that clear. I didn't pull the coins from circulation but they aren't worth anything more than face value and if I'm lucky the value of the album I put them in. I'm in no way offended that they don't offer me anything. The day they do I will be in shock.
Referencing the original post I guess they could be proof sets he was offered but since he didn't say that I just assumed they were uncirculated. The same reason I wouldn't buy the coins he was offered at 150 is the same reason I'll never get more than face value for my coins.

I'm with oldfordman. I searched quarter rolls and completed the State Quarter sets. Many of the quarters are in AU condition. The ones that are not, I will replace when I find a better quality quarter. Now, I am still searching for the elusive S and W quarters.

Searching for the s and the w and silver + 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 is all I am left doing in quarters.
