Has this coin been cleaned? I've been reading up on the forums here lately about cleaned coins, and I highly suspect this has been cleaned. For the following reasons, 1. It's too shiny and clean for its age, there is dirt around the eagles talons, and some other hard to reach areas. The rest is clean. 2. I see fine scratches, parallel with each other in the flat areas. 3. the 2x2 was punctured and the area around the olive branches has toned where the puncture was. Polished coins will often tone after being polished, in my experience. This coin lacks the "dirt" and natural toning a coin of this age typically exhibits. I am sorry the photos do not show the scratches, but my camera doesn't pick them up. Edited by DouglasFir 07/17/2021 11:32 pm

It's a little hard to tell from the pics, but I would say there's a good bet that it has been cleaned/polished. It looks pretty flat with no luster.

Cleaned? Most likely...However my first impression (just a weird feeling) was it's fake. Either case would need better/bigger pixs

I wish I could take better pics. I am trying to figure out what kind of photo system would work best and not break the bank. I am certain it's not a fake. Cleaned... yes, I strongly believe it's been cleaned.

It kind of doesn't matter. Its worth MELT.

It doesn't matter all that much with this Walker if it has been cleaned or not, because a cleaning would have only a minimal influence on value at this grade.
If this coin has been cleaned, (the cleaning) has long since been patinated over.
With MS grades, a cleaning can knock off a huge percentage of the value.

This was really just a learning experiment for me. I know it's a common date coin worth only melt, but I'm trying to develop my skill for detecting cleaned coins. I should have been clear on that from the beginning. But I do really appreciate everyone's help! ;-)

Some times people just blabber on and on. For that coin I'd say don't worry about if cleaned or not. If you already purchased it, then it's yours now so be happy with it.

The large obverse spot at K2 is just one of many things that relegate this to the bullion bin.
