I have 3 silver quarters. One 1963 and 2 1964. In September of 1964, production of silver quarters went from silver to silver clad on some were minted on the wrong planchet. There was silver and silver clad quarters and all mints resumed minting
Some pieces bear no mint mark and are indistinguishable from Philadelphia mint. 1965 Washington quarters were struck on a silver planchet intended for 1964 coinage and vice versa?
How do I know if I have 1 of those rare coins? Sending pics of all front and back coins.

Here is a good read on this very subject:

https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...0circulation.

Here is an excerpt from this article:

Quote:
No one knows precisely how many 1964-D Washington, Reverse of 1965 quarter dollars were struck. Having 12 coins together provided a rare opportunity to perform a die study. My colleagues and I were able to attribute the coins to two different reverse dies. This means that dies intended to strike copper-nickel clad coins were instead impressed with a D Mint mark and used to strike silver counterparts - and it happened more than once. It's exciting to think this mishap occurred multiple times, providing some insight into the transition from silver to clad coinage.

The 1964-D quarter dollar has the highest mintage of any silver Washington quarter dollar - 704,135,528 pieces. But these coins were not all struck in 1964.

Coinage of silver quarter dollars was continued alongside production of copper-nickel clad quarter dollars until 1967 to meet demand.
All U.S. coins dated 1965 through 1967 were struck without Mint marks although they were produced at all Mints. The use of Mint marks was temporarily suspended primarily to discourage collectors and speculators from hoarding new issues.

Sorry, but I posted pics of the sides all together. I'm new at this, very new. I've been reading and studying for over a year with my finds before asking questions. Obviously, this is a lifelong learning process. I love it but I'm so confused, I had to give in and ask! Sorry for the confusion, but I'm confused!

Any clues as to weight and sides of pics I replied to on requests? I'm baffled. I have "LOTS" of silver, error, questionable, tons of wheat, war, barber, buffalo, etc., of coins. Is there a place that I can hire by the hour to explain and enlighten me on some of these. I'm learning a little, by reading and reading, scouring, but still feeling uneducated. I'm trying to figure all of this out and looking for that diamond in the rough after collecting for many years.
I was diagnosed with Stage 3A Small Cell Lung Cancer last September (terminal). Not looking for pity, but trying to get all my eggs in 1 basket, so to speak.
Therefore, that diamond in the rough, is detrimental to my trip to to see the Ocean one more time!
I'm leaving all to next generation(nephew), who's taken an interests in all of this! But, if I have that 1 special coin that can get me to crab legs and lobster for a week, I'm in!

Thanks @Dearborn! Interesting read and useful. Some insight, but, I'm still confused! Lol! It's a mystery world, baby don't ya know? Back to the drawing board... I did find the article informative, because it tells me, that basically, there's no way that I can find out what I'm looking for. Little peace!

All your quarters are silver and should be. They are not errors.
