My 1969D has the S right in the middle of the D and has has the extreme DDO cant miss the S coin micro scope plane as day

I don't think omm was done after 52 or 56 somewhere around that time.

That would not be a DDO. If that were true it would be a mintmark issue. And the 'D' would have to be the same size as the normal 'D' mintmark. So it is probably damage on the mintmark that makes if look like it is something that it is not. People also add letters to a coin with a punch. So if it is incuse, on the coin, it is not a mintmark, as it would have been added to the coin.

Note the mintmark is over the 'S' on this quarter, but it is still raised above the fields. If it was added to the coin, it would be incuse:

these are incuse on the obverse and will push out on the reverse as this is damage to the coin after the strike.
