My dad had this in his safety deposit box. I'm failing to see any error. He seemed to think it might be a mule but I've found it surprisingly hard to research this online. Front plate number is H478. Rear is 507. Any help?

No way to tell from your pics if it might be an inverted reverse.

Not inverted, the label shows at the top on both sides. Must be something else.

Wasn't there some kind of experimental notes in 1977? John1

Series 1977A $1 FRNs had the Natick Experimentals. I've looked at the OP's note and haven't been able to discern an error on the note.

He was probably thinking the bleed through of Lincolns' coat was an error. Back side bottom shows ink coming through. Sometimes called a variance, but not an error.

One other possibility is that the ink on the back came from stacking. In this case it's a wet ink transfer. Again probably a variance and not an error. The note would have to be effected more dramatically to be deemed an error.

I don't see anything but an ordinary $5.

In any event, a mule is not an error.

Took this to the ANA show. A dealer immediately recognized as an offset printing and now that he pointed it out, it's very clear to see. I was just thrown by the "Reverse error" notation on the holder.

Maybe it's the photos, but the degree of the offset printing is as light as I've ever seen.
