John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 01/10/2009 09:14 am I have noticed that when I clean a coin that has finger prints on it I can never get rid of them without ruining the coin because the print is "etched"into the metal and yes prints negatively affect the grade and eye appeal. neversuited1 Pillar of the Community United States 1121 Posts	Posted 01/10/2009 10:52 am yotie, Check Thad's threads regarding this and other issues with cleaning without altering the cent. In my experience, I shy away from cents with finger prints. To me it means the coin has probably been altered at some point. Even if it has been "cleaned" using the correct means and not damaging it, it was def handled wrongly and has a huge affect on the grade or value of the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
