I recently picked up this coin, which is a scarce but not outrageously valuable type which has been on my want list for a while. The auction listing had it about 2 grades higher than what I thought (maybe by mistake).
Ignoring the planchet defect (which presumably does not affect the grade), I am curious what the assembled wisdom here is for a fair grade. Below it for reference purposes, I am posting an image of the best one I could find, from a 2019 Kunker auction

VF-30. Love the reversed "3" in the date.

I'd say VF-35.

Looking around the web, the reversed "3" seems to be the normal for the 1638 coin.

Thanks for the feedback. I was also thinking VF.
cgb listed it as AU which is clearly way off, but the bidding suggests that grade was ignored.
I know a lot of collectors would not have gone near a coin with such an ugly planchet defect, but I'm OK with it because this coin was minted in unusual circumstances, and I think the planchet is a reflection of that history. That's also a good rationalization of my going as cheap as I could to get an example of this coin

Yes, the 3 is always retrograde. Also, the O in Carolus (obverse) is filled in more than half the examples I have seen. I don't know if all of them were struck on a single set of dies, and this was a die chip or some other defect that occurred over time, or there were two different obverse dies... An opportunity for more study!

VF-25 for me. Lots of wear on the hair and lions on reverse.
