What Causes A 3d Effect On Some Coins?

Wrekkdd Pillar of the Community Canada 3328 Posts	Posted 08/11/2021 12:45 pm I was curious about this a while ago and wanted to find out what causes it, is it just a specific toning.? Iv noticed in some coins as I move it around it almost looks like the picture on moves around as well. I don't see it super often and some times it looks like the coin face moves more then others. I have mayb noticed it on a dozen coins randomly. I have no way if capturing it in a picture so was wondering if anyone has knowledge on this? Report this Post to the Staff

Wrekkdd Pillar of the Community Canada 3328 Posts	Posted 08/11/2021 6:33 pm I'll keep my eye out for another one, I think iv seen it mostly on loonies. And a picture wouldn't show the effect, just imagine your holding a coin and you twist it to get a different angle, then the picture on the coin looks like it shifts, twist back and the image twists back with it. It when I hold some coins at 3 and 9 o'clock and turn it up and down the image moves. MD on more mint state coins is probably what causes the effect (at least for me) Report this Post to the Staff
