Hi,
—>(Missing London 2012 Olympic logo)<—
I have a XXX Olympiad countdown 1 5 pound coin. I think it is a silver piedfort but I am not sure, but the main thing that is confusing me is that it is missing the 2012 Olympic logo. It is the same diameter, weight(2oz/56.6g) and thickness as the silver piedfort version of this coin so I don't think it is a fake but I could be wrong. Could this be a miss-strike or something similar?

Please reply if you have any information that might be useful.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Olympic Logo was printed on in colour.
If this is the case, it could easily be removed with acetone, much like
the Canadian coloured coins can easily be modified.
So it would not be an error.

So could this be a silver piedfort with the logo rubbed off?

Could be. Everything else points to it being silver.

I have heard of dodgy sellers removing the colour from coins with acetone and then selling them on ebay etc as "rare" mint error coins with the colour missing. Naturally, an exorbitant price tag is attached to such "rare" coins.
