First time for me ever seeing a Canadian Dollar , Ive only seen a penny here in the states. But what Ive read a Loonie is suppose to weigh 6.27 grams, And a Proof was Only done inn Silver, Again This is just from what Ive read. 2012-present, Composition-99.99% silver, weight-23.17 grams, Diameter-35.9 mm, Thickness-2.8 mm, Edge-Reeded

To me it looks like environmental damage. Maybe a once buried coin or a fountain coin. John1

I believe loonies are magnetic, silver is not. This looks just worn to me

But check if it's magnetic, the weight seems normal as well.

Believe it or not this is super common for some reason, through the many boxes of loonies ive searched the 2012's seemed to be the year people lost a lot of change outside because a good portion of them looked like this, I agree with John1, enviroment damage forsure.

Looks like someone torched off the brass plating, or it lived through a fire.

I don't think it is silver. From what I remember, the silver proof version does not have the security feature under the word Canada. So this coin would likely be a steel core plated with alternating layers of different metals such as copper, nickel and brass.
