Just picked this up, looks better than the sellers photos so quite happy really. Only paid about $140. It is an 1879 5 Francs from Switzerland, only 30,000 were minted. What grade would you give it? The reverse has plenty of lustre and both sides have good reflectivity although not pure like a proof like, more hazy reflectivity. I've taken a few photos from different angles. Thanks in advance!
I really prefer not to grade European coins on a Sheldon scale, but for the benefit of U.S. collectors of European coins, grade for this one is: AU-58, which is typical for a Swiss Schutzenthaler.
All were kept, and never circulated, hence the typical very high average grade.
This example for Basel: Eidgenossichisches Schutzenfest - a shooting festival for the whole of Switzerland.
900 fine silver, 37mm, face value 5 Francs, minted in Bern.

Thanks for the reply! I also thought AU58. Such a lovely design on these, I'll send this in to NGC for grading and will look for one in Mint State or a PL as they look absolutely stunning when PL.
Indeed, it is beautiful piece. There appears to be a small test cut on the obverse field to the right of the head and a small 'X' on the reverse above the griffin. I consider these trivial, and as dealers sometimes say, "only mentioned for accuracy."
