Hi everyone

I found this brand new loonie that really looks like the nickel bronze plated ones from before 2012. It isn't obvious from the picture, but they're different.
Is anyone aware of a nickel bronze-plated loonie used in a set for 2021?

Thanks

An XRF will tell you the difference, the 2012 coins and earlier are nickel cored, and the new ones are steel cored.

Do you think a nickel cored coin could be a wrong planchet? It would be a weird mistake to happen in 2021 I feel, hence my first assumption, that coin isn't meant for circulation and someone broke a set.

The 2021 sets I see on the Mint's web site that include an uncirculated version of the regular-design Loonie all describe a "brass-plated steel" coin - none include a bronze-plated nickel coin.

But maybe I'm missing something. I suggest spending some time on the Mint's web site and checking it out for yourself to make sure.

I looked on the mint's website, all I can find in sets are brass plated steel coins. I have no way of knowing what the core of my coin is made of short of using XRF, but it looks bronze plated, not brass plated, regardless of what is actually inside, if that makes any sense. Weighing is a good idea, I will do it next week when I'm at work. Thanks for the ideas!
