any Ideas ? Its definitely an overdate but what date ? is it more than likely a 79/78 ?

also I have no reference material which covers this coin , If anyone can give me a weight and approximate value ?

Krause lists this coin as KM#142.1 25 grams, .900 silver. There are two over dates for this year, 1879 over 69 and 1879 over 78. Yours looks to be the 79 over 78 type. I'd grade it just under EF-40, value about $20 probably a little more with the die crack.

Metalman, a real nice example such as this, with a clear over-date would sell about double the listed Krause value. Slightly lower grade examples often go for $25-$30, on ebay. Early Chilean coins are quite undervalued in Krause. Especially the 1/2, 1, 2 and 2 1/2 cent pieces.
Again, this is a real nice example. Certainly better than mine! =)
