Hello Community- I have an 1886 Liberty $20 gold coin that appears to be in wonderful condition but is set within a bezel setting in a piece of jewelry that was never carried. Is there any value to this coin if it were to be removed from the money clip/jewelry? Thank you in advance for your help!

That design is not right for a $20 gold. Maybe it is a $10 or a $5? Either way, most of the time jewelry bezels cause irreparable damage and reduce a coin to its melt value unless it is a scarce year/mint. This does not appear to be that, so probably only worth melt.

All the Liberty gold coins have the denomination on the reverse. Picture of the reverse, please! As BigSilver mentioned, being secured in a bezel will usually result in some type of edge damage but it'll always be worth at minimum the value of the gold content!

too much lighting. coin may have been cleaned and it should be removed from the holder to determine what if any damage. gold is soft so the chances its not damaged is small.

Likely doomed to bullion value, agree.

polished on the obverse, probably not so on the reverse.

When I was in college I planned to give my girlfriend a St. Gaudens (common date) $20 on a chain as a present for Christmas. I was excited. Bought the coin, chain, and bezel separately. Just before I had a jeweler put it together the girlfriend and I walked past a jewelry store that had a similar item in the display window. I coyly asked my girlfriend what she thought of it and she said...."That's the ugliest piece of jewelry I've ever seen." I was crestfallen. Went back to my apartment and showed her what I had. She thought it was funny. We took it back to the jewelry store and it became an engagement ring. She was happy. We've been married 47 years.
