How do you grade something like this, where the obverse is nice and the reverse is worn?

I don't know if an overall grade can be given for this coin. It would have to be a split grade. The obverse looks to be G-4, while the reverse is poor. The value would be it's actual silver weight.

The obverse is definitely not G4, and the reverse is not poor. I don't know how to grade this, but I think the reverse would have enough detail for at least G, unless there's another design that normally is there. If there was, then maybe AG. Poor is for utter basal state coins.

In the center on the reverse should be 12 EINEN THALER with the date below, I see no detail in the center and the date is just about unreadable. Also at least half of the surrounding letter are unreadable. According to the grading system in Krause's World Coins, AG is defined as " There will typically be only a silhouette of a large design. The rim will be worn down into the letters if any." On this coins reverse the large design is gone and most of the letters are unreadable. The reverse does not meet AG grade.

Perhaps I was a little harsh on obverse grade, looking over the coin again I'll say it might go VG-10 on the obverse only.

These probably wear a bit differently than US coins, and the pictures probably don't show the detail. Too much peripheral detail seems to be remaining there, which isn't typical on basal state coins. I mean, poor usually means it's virtually blank.
