I started hunting in circulation loonies. It's never been very interesting to me, because there aren't a whole lot of errors to be found, but this find may have made it all worth it. One thing that brings me doubt is I don't really notice the Blakesley effect, but I also haven't really seen a clip on a loon before, so I don't know if it's normal.

I give it 2 thumbs up ! The shape of the rim looks right and the it has weak beads only at the 2 clipped sections.

Nice. Might need an acetone soak. Can you safely use acetone on that metal?

Loon errors are rare. This is the 2nd I've seen, I believe SPP posted one in the past. Congrats on the find.

Is the Blakesley effect normally found on Canadian clips?

I looked at the other post by SPP and I don't see the Blakesley effect on both clipped loonies that were shown. I have seen the effect on most of my other clipped coins, but maybe the clips aren't large enough to cause it on this loon. Probably my best find of the last few years!
As for acetone, I don't know that it would make it much better. I think I'll just leave it as is. Grade isn't amazing, but for an error this scarce I'm still pretty satisfied.

Perhaps it is the 11 side collar, instead of being round, that messes with the Blakesley effect. . So few examples to compare. Congrats again.

100% legit. First double clip in a loon dollar I have seen. Great catch!

Loon planchets are round, and it is the 11-sided collar die that forms their shape, so a clip would have to be larger to show a Blakesley effect.

Really good catch, especially after more than 30 years of circulation....

There is still nice coin to be found in roll hunting!
