1938 Proof NGC PR65 Jefferson Nickel
should I ... or shouldn't I?

I have ants in my pants. I don't know much about NGC grading, but this looks OK to me.
I made one offer TOTAL $105.00 which was at about 75% of the buy it now TOTAL price of $133.50 and was promptly shot down.
I waited a couple days and made another TOTAL offer of $115.00 and got a counteroffer that amounts to about $10.00 off.

It would fit in to my Proof set rather nicely as there is some character to those proofs in my set. I just want to be done with my complete set of UNCS and Proofs to date and I just can't seem to find any super deals on these anymore.
I do wish I had done this end years ago when they were $30.00 each on the average for the toughest early proofs.

Wonder if anyone has any thoughts, I'm like teetering on a silly $5.00 matter here. If it were PCGS I would probably smack down the money.

PCGS lists non cameo 1938 proofs at
PR64 $110.00
PR65 $130.00
PR66 $160.00

I know it's up to me, but I wouldn't mind hearing a little something else besides the tick .. tock .. tick .. tock in my head.

Getting this one will leave me with the 1939 1940 1941 both 1942 and the 1951 to get yet. 1942 TY 2 is next I'm sure.

I did it, I countered one more time and he accepted, and it will show up for a total cost of $117.00
I'm happy as long as it looks nice when it gets here.
Now I'm after the Type 2 1942 P Proof next I suppose.
Unless I find some bargains on the others I still need beforehand.

I'm comparing it in my Blue Book of US coins from 1998 and 2007, and it's definitely a good investment. =)

Thanks for the follow-up comment Numismat. I am happy I took a whack at it. It is already slabbed so I saved on that expense too.
I'm sure I'll be fine.

They go up and down in price, but mostly up. I remember I once owned a 1942 P silver proof and paid 150.00 for it when they were listed in the RedBook for 300.00 many years ago. I needed some cash and it wasn't the best example anyway and I sold it for more than I bought it for.
Shortly after that the bottom dropped out on the Silver Proof nickel and they can be had today in that condition mine was in for under 100.00.
The PR67 examples though, that's a whole different story.
