From the Barber Family by way of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club:

"The Liberty Seated Collectors Club (LSCC), along with the Barber Coin Collectors' Society (BCCS), is happy to announce the discovery of the first known photograph of William Barber, 5th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, and designer of the Trade dollar and the Double Dime (20-cent piece), along with many patterns and medals.

After research working with two of the great-great-grandsons of William Barber (and great-grandsons of Charles Barber), a long-sought-after photo of William has been found in the family archives. With the generosity of the family, the LSCC and BCCS are pleased to publish this new photograph, and the painting of a young William Barber believed to date from the 1840s. We also include images of the William Barber medal (by Charles, and previously the only known image of him).

Thanks for sharing! Always interesting when a new piece of history surfaces. Quite like the memorial medal as well, good looking piece.

I think there was an article in a 2019 BCCS journal too. These and new images of Charles Barber are available for download here http://www.barbercoins.org/New-Barber-images.shtml
If you're interested in all things Barber, the quarterly journal is well worth the $15/year membership.

Interesting story and great looking medal. I love how portraits typically appear so well on bronze medals.
