Greetings all-

I joined the forum about a week ago, but have not gotten 'round to my introductory post until now. I stumbled into the world of coin and currency collecting following the discovery of some old coins and tokens in my late mother-in-law's house, as well as some old coins from my parents and an uncle on my mother's side (all deceased). I look forward to sharing pictures, etc. (when I've met those criteria) and learning as much as I can from my fellow members.
I'm an Air Force retiree since 2005 and live in the Omaha area where I work at Offutt AFB near Bellevue. My wife and I have two grown daughters, a son-in-law and three grandsons, and we're very proud of all of them. We also have some four-legged babies (bloodhound, black lab and a barn cat) that we enjoy spoiling as well.
Regarding the coins mentioned above, we discovered a couple that I'd never heard of or seen (1869 nickel trime, 1852 matron head large cent and 1858 flying eagle small cent) until I bought a Yeoman's
Red Book and remembered them after comparing pictures my wife took with her phone to the pictures/illustrations in the guide. Like a true amateur, I thought the family might be sitting on a gold mine without realizing it, but after having the coins looked at by a couple of local shops, our collective expectations were dialed back a bit.

Anyway, I'm happy to be a new member and look forward to becoming more knowledgeable about coin collecting and numismatics in general.
Best regards,
