I have collected odd looking coins since early 80's when I worked in a variety store. Only recently I started going through my collection and came across this gray nickel. It is the same gray on both sides as well as the edges. Is this coin missing chrome? Other 61's to compare with.

There is no chrome on 1961 nickels.
Your coin is suffering from ED (Environmental Damage).
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
