Good evening. 1999 P on the reverse and to the right of the first column. I see the normal shadow column but to the right of that is another. Also the 12th column to the left is what appears to be doubling. I searched Wexler and others and could not find this variety. Also there is a die crack running from the lower roof of the memorial to the rim, passing through the leg of the R in AMERICA. I could be way off in thinking this is doubling of the columns on the right of 1 and left of 12. However on the 12th there is no connection from what I think is doubling to the shadow arch in the background. It's just there. And on the 1st, to the left, the shadow column is there and connects to the shadow arch. What I think is doubling appears to do the same but is very faint. Doesn't connect strongly to the arch in the background.

I hope I am using the correct terms by referring to the memorial background secondary images as shadow images. If not please correct me
I also understand that these background columns and arches are suppose to be there. What I am seeing is next to that.

Thank you for looking and walking me through this one in advance. God bless.

There are 4 false columns:

They show the rows of columns behind those rows. They often get polished off though.

But now you know. The die polishing often removes this false column.

Here's a shot of the Lincoln Memorial from the same angle as the engraving on the cent. The partial columns behind #1 and #12 can easily be seen, as well as the opening in the center of the outer wall that shadows columns #5 and #8. These are the features that Frank Gasparro was trying to show on the reverse design of the cent.
