I see a lot of good suggestions here! Congress is determined to give us an endless supply of commemorative coins for circulation... In the spirit of this topic, I will suggest they take a look at this list.

Ronald Reagan Teddy Roosevelt Andrew Jackson
Any of those would make a great change on current circulating coins. Kennedy and FDR need to go...
For commems, I like some of the ideas already put forth. MacArthur Patton Tesla (Think of all the cool things you could do with electric current designs on the face of a coin!)
What about Carl Sagan? Wouldn't Jupiter look cool on a coin?
I don't like the idea of Henry Ford. I am into cars, and I am pretty much a Ford man. However I know what kind of thug he was. Yeah, he did some clever things with production practices. But man, he was far beyond just a 'shrewd' business man. He hired mercenaries to keep his employees in their place, as just ONE example.

jbuck, that is a great idea! Do 4 quarters a year until all 1500+ are covered! That'll keep the mint in the quarter business for a real long time.
Did you look at the list? I glanced over it and noticed Gunnery Sgt Daly... He earned not just one, but TWO Medals of Honor! Unreal! What a hero.
2nd Lt Hanneken earned his for assassination! Today that would be against the Geneva Convention, therefore a war crime.

OMG! I want this guy on a coin! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michae..._FitzmauriceHe saw 3 grenades thrown into his barracks, and threw 2 of them back out at the enemy, then threw his body on the remaining one to save his bunkmates. If that wasn't enough, after the explosion, he got back up and battled the enemy. He fought with his rifle until he took another grenade blast, destroying the gun! Then he fought hand to hand to obtain another firearm to fight with. And he's still alive today! This guy deserves to be on a coin even in life. I can't believe, looking down the list of names, how many guys earned the award by throwing themselves onto grenades to save their fellow soldiers. Makes you think.

Of course. Such as Albert Einstein. No one mentioned Elvis Presley, Loren Bacal, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe.

I think we should have a CIRCULATING commemorative (when's the last time we had those?) for each branch of the armed services.
