Came across this one from 2000+ Vicky cents I bought back to 2000 on ebay. Haxby # PC59-165, obv. 47a, rev. J6.

OOH, nice, triple punched O in ONE, eww, bad scratch O to C and some others, rats, a small depression under the E of ONE. Oh well, nice variety, another die pair on checklist, good enough, maybe I'll find a better one sometime.

Years later, I was still trolling ebay for coins and saw this one, checked the Haxby site, saw it was a 165, and wow, what the heck, the same depression under the E of ONE, what a coincidence !, cool, bid, (won at $13 Cdn.).

Then I find a third coin with the same depression, slightly bigger and deeper. It's a late stage with the die crack at leaf 2 running faintly down to the T and the crack at leaf 9 runs up to the 8. It also has a lamination error.

So, two questions; Do all Haxby 165's have this mark ?
Was it something stuck to the die ?

I would say that a piece of metal from one of the planchets stuck or was semi-welded to the die. I think that the depth or size of the recess was from the striking pressure or force, like the difference between a weak and crisp strike.
