Well it is two things, but not a DDO. 1. An extremely worn die. (note the devices are widened, more so towards the rim direction) 2. Extreme Machine Doubling. (Note only the outside edges are affected. On a DDO, the centers would be enlarged) 3. The fields are covered with die flow lines. You didn't mention what year the coin was (spotted it later) 1983 (No listings mentioned on any 1983 nickels that year on Variety Vista) http://www.varietyvista.com/04b%20J...Listings.htm but extreme die wear is noticed on the nickels. I feel it is because the Nickel is a harder metal and wears the dies down faster. But other disagree with this. But seen more so, on nickels, than any other denomination.
