I give up on this one. I'm guessing it's a Spanish coin, perhaps 1 centimo, but I can't find anything in my World Coins books nor on the web to compare. It's about 23 cm; the other side (obverse?) is worn completely slick. You can see a hint of a few letters around the edge, but I can read only the date. If anyone has a link to a decent image of it, I'd appreciate your posting it. Thanks in advance.

have you tried German States coinage?

1857---Spanish?

The shield and crown look familiar to this period but the date is in the wrong place.

Thanks, DCH - I believe you nailed it. The tops of the letters at the bottom of the coin seems to match the "1 CENT" in the photos. I was only half a world off when I guessed "Spain", lol.

The ebay is a 1/2 cent piece, COINAHOLIC, and since the lister didn't give the dimension, and DCH had the opportunity to see my measurement ... I'm going with 1 cent as the denomination. Of course when I checked my World Coins after the fact I found a listing under "Netherlands West Indies" for a coin similar enough that I at least could have assumed the country. I guess I missed it the first time around.

Thanks, all - nice to know that someone as bumfuzzled as I was over this coin can get almost instant help!
