The show was slow to start but became busier around lunch time. After we signed in we were given a 2006 silver eagle at the door, that was a nice surprise. went around the floor looking and asking asking and looking. fpund 2 dealers that had coins I was inetrested in.
They also had NGC there and graders were giving free opinions. I watched him for a bit and he did tell a few people their coins wouldnt grade. while some received better news.

First is a 1961 Franklin ms64 fbl PCGS.
I love the colors and after looking carefully I spotted what looked like a die crack. I went to NGC and he did confirm it..pretty cool

Next up is a NGC 1941d Walker that I needed for my growing short set. Very nice strike

AND NOW

I have been looking for this for a while..I looked at it very carefully. asked a friend to look at it and the NGC grader. all said it would come back as a 63-64. the grader said it may have been dipped a while ago but it would grade. I took it to the local coin shop and while he liked it said it was too white for him

I could reallly use some opinions on this one..it's purchased so its too late but I like it. I just wanted to feel ok that I bought a solid coin raw

1926 Oregon trail half paid $135.00

Hey Grovey! Where are you at now on the Walker short set? It sounds like you had a good time at the show. With silver at $10.00 the Eagle was a very nice gift! Mike

Love the walker Grovey. My thoughts on the OT are that it is a nice coin, but has likely been dipped in the past-and cannot get an idea of the luster from your pic (or is it a scan?) Are there any luster breaks that might make it high au rather than uncirc? Tough to tell from your pic, but I don't see any major hits-so I'd say you got a fair deal-price is right for a raw high au-low ms. Are you working on a commem set or just wanted the OT? It's one of the prettiest CC designs, IMO.

Yeah, its true. $5 for parking and they gave you a 2006 ASE. Not bad! The only thing you will have to deal with in the future is the company sponsoring this giveaway. They will call and mail you about buying and selling coins. They called me at least 4 times last year.

What day did you go? I went the first day on Thursday and saw Tradernick. I picked up a couple nice coins as well.

My best buy? A 1909-VDB MS66RD graded by NGC. I think I "stole" it for $100. They were asking $150, and I offered a $100 (cash) and they went back and forth and took it! Maybe it was the 1st day of the show luck and these people wanted to make their first sale. Remember...Lincolns will be super hot in 2009! Especially 1909's in high red condition.

I also traded my 1899-P Morgan graded by ANACS MS62 for $260 to apply to a coin I REALLY wanted...1885-CC Morgan PCGS MS64 with bright fields that the dealer was asking $650. I got him to take $620 and applied my $260 trade from the 1899. Considering I bought that 1899 just a couple years ago for only $130, I was pleased. The eye appeal of the 1899 was dull, but this CC Morgan is beautiful and for something where only 228,000 were minted. I'll take it!

GOD I wish I could go to a coin show. I have wanted to go to atleast one since I started collecting coins but they are always so far aay that my back would never hold out on the drive from NC to Florida if I made it there I would be hurting so bad the whole time the show was there I would be misirable, maybe one day I will just go down there a week before the show that way I may recoop from the drive in time for the show to start. But I love hearing these stories about what everyone found at the shows and what they almost bought and just everything about the show. So keep on telling these stories so we who are unable to go can live vicariously through you who can

Wow! I'm impressed by the pictures of the oregon trail Half dollar.
I don't even remember seeing one of those in me RedBook. So I went to the book to find out why.

It's because the pictures of your coin looks so spetacular while the one in the book really doesn't show the beauty of the coin.

Bryan...if you go could to ONE show per year, it would be the Florida United Numimismatic (F.U.N.)Show held in Orlando at the convention center on International Drive. It is the world's largest and in my opinion, the best show for us collectors.

This show takes place every January (first weekend after the 1st). You are looking at over 400 boothes and 15,000 dealers and collectors who attend. ALL of the major grading services are there offering FREE on-site opinions on coins...which have saved my butt MANY times.

The best of the best is here and I made it a point to save my coin budget just for shows like this. For a collector, there is nothing better than to see millions upon millions of dollars in coins all in ONE room. My best buys and acquisitions have always been at shows as online services like ebay have been more gambling than anything else. Matter of fact, I will NEVER buy any raw coins on ebay ever again. Between digital images that can be easily manipluated to counterfeits floating all about, it is NOT worth it.

So take a drive down I-95 to I-4. Send the family to Disney while you hit the floor. Just to walk the floor from booth to booth will take you HOURS. There is so much to see and so much offered under ONE roof. Hope to see you and others next year! Check it out:
